Vein problems can lead to unpleasant symptoms ranging from cosmetic issues to severe pain to spontaneous bleeding. Many people are at risk due to genetics, behavioral habits or nutritional choices. Here, Dr. Gardner shares in his Healthy Vein Checklist some things you can do to be proactive about your vein health. While these are not cures or guaranteed to prevent vein issues, they will increase your overall vein health and can help prevent or delay vein issues for some people.

Behaviors for Vein Health

  • Avoid sitting for long periods
  • If you have to sit for very long, put up your feet! Make sure they are least six inches above your heart. Raise them a few times each day
  • Keep moving! If you move, your blood will move
  • Squeeze in some exercise when you can. It’s vital to your vein health that you maintain a regular exercise regimen
  • When sitting at a desk, roll your ankles in circles in both directions, and point and flex your feet

Life Changes for Vein Health

Your Healthy Vein Checklist
  • Stop smoking
  • Take your medications as prescribed by your doctor

While these changes cannot guarantee you will never have vein issues, they can certainly put you on a track toward better overall vein health. As always, consult your doctor before beginning an exercise program. To learn more about vein disease, read Top 3 Reasons People Develop Vein Problems.
