Case Study: Treatment for Bulging Varicose Veins

Treatment for Bulging Varicose Veins

Sex: Male

Age: 41

Complaint: Leg pain, swelling, itching, bleeding veins, heaviness, and tiredness associated with worsening varicose veins over 25 years.

Diagnosis: Bulging Varicose Veins

After a 25-year history of worsening varicose veins, the patient decided it was time to seek treatment.

He first noticed his varicose veins when he was 16 years old. Twenty five  years later, they had only worsened. They now bulged and were painful. He experienced swelling, itching, heaviness, and tiredness. As the varicose veins worsened, he even had one episode of spontaneous bleeding from his veins. He came to Dr. Gardner hoping for relief and healing.

We see a lot of patients who have suffered for years with the same symptoms. Some assume the cost of treatment will be too high. Others fear outdated treatments like vein stripping that were very invasive, painful and required  long recovery time. Thankfully, both of these are just myths and treatment is in reach for most people.

How Were His Bulging Varicose Veins Treated?

Dr. Gardner treated this patient’s bulging varicose veins with top of the line modern techniques. He had endovenous laser ablation of the saphenous vein, followed by a microphlebectomy of the bulding veins on the posterior (back) thigh and lateral (side) calf. Approximately two months after his procedure, the patient reported that all his symptoms have resolved.

He is pain free and most importantly, he is happy to have his life and his legs back.

These Before and After pictures of the patient show the painful and unsightly bulging veins, most apparent on the back of the leg, and the smooth leg after trement, when his symptoms have resolved. These results are typical for most patients at The Vein Institute.
